Citi MasterCard

You can use a Citi MasterCard with Google Wallet. If you already have a card, open your Google Wallet Android application and enter your account information. After you enter your information Citi will then confirm the user’s credit card information which is then stored on a secure chip inside your Android mobile phone. You can then simply start using your mobile phone to tap and pay.

Prepaid Google Card

Google are also offering a prepaid virtual debit card that you can use to finance your existing credit cards in other words a Citi MasterCard is not required. When you activate a prepaid Google Card in Google Wallet, you’ll receive $10 in your account. The first $10 using Google Wallet is paid for by Google. Then you can reload the card with additional funds from your plastic cards. You pay no cost to recharge your prepaid card from Google at least until late 2011. Since the Google prepaid card is purely a virtual prepaid card you will not receive an actual card in the mail.

Gift Cards In Google Wallet

Google Wallet can store gift certificates for participating merchants. When you choose to pay the merchant, Google Wallet will send the gift certificate to the terminal information.

The New Google Hamina Data Center

Google released a new video showing the cooling system used by its new data center at Hamina on the south coast of Finland. Live at the end of this year the new Google Hamina data center was constructed on the site of the former Hamina Summa paper mill and the new data center will be cooled using only the water available in the Gulf of Finland using power scarfing coolers.

According to Google the new data center uses a sea water tunnel that was built for the Summa paper mill in the 1950s. The water, said Google senior director building the new data center Joe Kava, is managed by a heat exchanger where it serves to deflect the heat from the data center servers. The sea water passes through four different strained systems before it reaches the heat exchanger and cools a jet of water that is then used to cool the new data center.

The water then moves to a tempering building, where it mixes with a separate source of the seawater, so it is cooled before returning to the Gulf of Finland. “We return to a temperature that is much more similar to the inlet temperature, so as to minimize environmental impact in this area,” says Kava. In February 2009, Google paid € 40 million (approximately $ 52 million) for the old Summa paper mill. Google said the acquisition included about 166 hectares (410 acres) of land and buildings and Google would invest approximately a further € 200 million (260 million dollars) to build its new Hamina data center.

Google Uses A Special Tool Called Spanner To Manage Data Center Loads

The Summa paper mill closed in early 2008, showing a decline in newsprint and magazine paper production, which lead to “persistent losses in recent years and poor prospects for profitability long term.” If temperatures are too high at a single data center they move data center loads across to another data center with a platform owned by Google known as spanner. Spanner is a computational storage system that extends to all the Google data centers it moves load automatically and adds replicas of data and calculations based on the data center limitations and usage patterns, including limitations on the participation of bandwidth, packet loss, the power, resources and failures.

Sometimes if there is a temperature problem at a data center you may want to make a quick temperature relief. If you have a data center without coolers you need to move temperature pressure quickly to avoid shutdown. The data use at Google is huge comprised of hundreds of thousands of programming questions, which are run almost in real time and if the temperature starts to rise the data center does not have the luxury of sitting around. The Finnish data center will also use wind energy and that at least some of this comes from a new 12 MW wind farm, near the new data center.

What Is 3D Anaglyph ?

Anaglyph technology is used to provide the 3D stereoscopic picture when someone is looking through 3D glasses, in which the two lenses are different colors which are usually chromatically opposite. The images consist of two color layers, superimposed, but offset to each other to produce the effect of depth. Usually the main subject is in the middle, while the text and background color is set apart in opposite directions. This image contains two different colored filtered images, one for each eye. When you look through the anaglyph glasses they will reveal an integrated stereoscopic image perceived by the human brain as 3D.

Viewing anaglyph through colored glasses causes each eye to see a slightly different picture. In a red-blue anaglyph, for example, the eye that is covered with the red filter sees the red part of the image as white and blue parts as black, the eye covered by the blue filter perceives the opposite effect. True white or true black areas are seen the same by each eye. The mixtures of the image received from each eye is seen as different distances. Put on a pair of Red-Blue 3D anaglyph glasses and have a look at the image below.

Google Talk for Android with video and voice chat is gradually rolling out across the Nexus S Android phones in the coming weeks as part of the Android 2.3.4 update over-the-air and is also launching on the other Android 2.3 + devices in the near future. The new video and voice chat support from Google for Google Talk on the Android devices will bring it in line with Apple Face Time and it seems far superior in some respects as it works on 3G and 4G data networks and not only over WiFi.

The Space Shuttle Endeavour which is the youngest fleet of NASA’s orbiters, rose in the morning sky on Monday to start the last mission in its career spanning 19 years. Endeavour lifted off from the Kennedy Space Center at 8:56 am EDT (1256 GMT), from Launch Pad 39A. The shuttle and its crew of six are destined for the International Space Station, where they will spend 16 days to deliver supplies and also to complete a very important astrophysics experiment.

Space Shuttle Endeavour“Looks like a great day to launch Endeavour for the final time,” launch director Mike Leinbach told the crew as the minutes and seconds ticked down to liftoff. “On behalf of thousands of proud Americans who’ve been part of the journey, good luck, godspeed, see you back here on June 1.” Endeavour commander Mark Kelly also shared some profound words just before the launch. “As Americans, we endeavor to build a better life than the generation before and we endeavor to be a united nation,” Kelly said in the final moments at the launch pad. “In these efforts we are often tested. It is in the DNA of our great country to reach for the stars and explore. We must not stop.”

The Space Shuttle Program Is Being Retired

After today, NASA has a single shuttle mission planned before the shuttles are retired forever. The previous test launch in April 2011 was canceled when a heater that is used to protect a key power unit of the shuttle had a major failure just a few hours before takeoff. Engineers traced the problem to a power supply switch box connected to the heater. They replaced the switch box and about 20 feet of cable connected to it, and performed extensive testing to ensure that the problem was solved. There were no problems with the system at today’s launch.

Kelly is a veteran leader of the team of six, including Pilot Gregory H. Johnson and mission specialists Mike Fincke, Greg Chamitoff, Andrew Feustel, and the European Space Agency astronaut, Roberto Vittori. “I’m really excited and charged up for this mission!” Johnson tweeted on Twitter this morning. The launch was attended by a crowd of nearly 500,000 spectators, which included the wife of Commander Kelly, Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. Commander Kelly’s wife was back in Houston after being shot in January during a community outreach event outside a grocer in Tucson, Arizona. After the shooting, Kelly found some time to be with his wife and family, but decided in early February to continue training with the crew and to continue as the mission commander.

The Space Shuttle Endeavour Payload

Endeavour’s main payload is the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS), a $2 billion detector of particles that will be used to search cosmic rays that could help solve some of the most baffling cosmic mysteries, such as dark matter that is believed to be part of the universe. Besides the particle detector Endeavour is carrying a platform full of 14 000 pounds or 6350 kilograms of relief supplies to the space station, scheduled to run until at least 2020.

The final space flight scheduled for STS-135 Space Shuttle Atlantis will be later in July 2011. Where Atlantis astronauts will supply a final round of the International Space Station spare parts. After their mission, Endeavour, Atlantis and their sister orbiter Discovery are going to be sent to museums for public display. Endeavour is promised the California Science Center in Los Angeles, while Discovery will go to the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum and Atlantis will be displayed at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Center.

Without the space shuttle program, NASA will have to pay for the travel of U.S. astronauts aboard Russian space craft until the new American option is available. NASA has sought to encourage the development of U.S. commercial spacecraft in future that will be used for carrying the future crews. Meanwhile, NASA will work to build a rocket that could carry man back to the moon, an asteroid, and eventually to the planet Mars.

Bing has added a new feature this week so that now Facebook integrates with the search results produced on Bing Shopping. Now users can create a shopping list on the Bing search engine and then display that shopping list on the users Facebook wall to get feedback from friends and family in your Facebook network. When shopping on Bing you now have the option to click “Add to List” for any item you find on Bing. A module of the shopping list appears in the bottom left of the screen so that users can follow the progress of the products and share them with friends and family on Facebook.

With Bing you do not have to shop alone again because you can build your shopping list to share, compare and discuss with your friends on Facebook. From finding the best price on something to getting opinions of people you know and trust on Facebook, or simply just asking if something suits you or not.

Bing says that the idea is to make the search experience more socially based so that it allows users to get their Facebook friends involved in the purchasing decisions. If you want to see more information from your friends simply encourage them to “like” things on the web, and by reciprocity you should also “like” things too so your friends can also see what you like in turn.  The new toolbar on Bing now has a universal “like” button that allows you to also give a thumbs up easily to any website on the web in case they do not have the Facebook “like” button integrated so now using Facebook “likes” has never been this easy.

NASA is always looking for ways to involve the public and raise awareness of what NASA do, so it was natural that NASA would consider using Twitter. NASA’s mission for Twitter is to connect and communicate with people interested in what NASA does. The NASA global social Web strategy is to think of how to do their work in different ways. Services like Twitter give them the opportunity to speak directly with an audience that might not otherwise hear about what they do.

NASA has about 50 Twitter accounts for the NASA centers, programs and projects. In addition, several NASA astronauts tweet on Twitter. Many people often tweet from various programs and project accounts, so probably more than 100 NASA employees are on Twitter. In addition, many NASA employees have their own Twitter accounts and often tweet on the work they are doing for NASA.

NASA astronaut Mike Massimino (Astro_Mike) started to Twitter in early April 2009 and was the first person to tweet from space, May 12, 2009. Nine NASA astronauts have created Twitter accounts. The Astronauts Tweet and write then e-mail their messages to mission control on the ground who then tweet the Astronauts messages on Twitter.
