Apple Siri Is Now On The iPhone 4S

Steve Jobs was clear last year that he believed that Apple Siri was not a search firm, but rather a product driven using artificial intelligence. But that does not mean that Apple Siri can not serve as a threat to Google when using IOS devices for web search. With the deployment of Apple Siri on the iPhone 4S, voice recognition and virtual assistant services have become even more robust than when it first appeared last year. Apple is now showing that while Apple Siri is not a search technology when it is combined with other services, including Wolfram Alpha, Wikipedia and Yelp, it now has the potential to divert significant traffic from Google and other search engines.

What Can Apple Siri Do ?

Apple has revealed how users can ask questions of Apple Siri on the iPhone 4S. You can also find restaurants and book tables if you need to and a lot more. With the Wolfram Alpha integration you can now also search the web in general.

Apple Siri can also do things like set alarms, appointments, and dictate text messages, tasks that do not deal with general web search. But in many ways, if users feel at home talking to Apple Siri, it can affect the volume of web searches that Google sees with the future IOS devices coming out of Apple. Instead of turning to their browser and typing in a web search, they can simply request information by voice. And in many cases it is possible to bypass Google entirely. Many of the best keywords for searches while mobile browsing are for things like the weather, dictionary meanings and searching the names of celebrities, all of which can be handled with some degree by Apple Siri.

Apple Siri And Google

With Apple Siri, Apple does not have to enter the search game if it can use Apple Siri to direct people to programs, services and information they need. Apple Siri could hurt its rival Google who’s income is based on search advertising. Google and Microsoft are seeing that a quarter of all web searches on mobile devices are now performed using voice. If multiple applications can connect through Apple Siri, it would help Apple gain greater visibility without having to worry about using Google web search at all. This can increase a company like Alpha Wolfram, who is trying to compete with the Google search box. It could also be useful for a company like Yelp, which has to compete with Google’s services to get noticed in the search results. It is probably no coincidence that the two have signed with Apple.

Apple Siri Reducing The Dependence On Google

It seems that Apple is using Apple Siri to reduce the dependence of the iPhone on Google, something that Apple is supposed to do with mapping at some point in time as well. And if Apple Siri can give a great user experience it may not only be a differentiating factor for IOS, but it could also help pull some traffic away from Google search. Apple are betting that people will like Apple Siri and how many people will like speaking to a computer-generated voice is still unknown at this time but we are about to find out. Apple is fantastic at introducing people to technology. And in this case, Apple has an interest in pushing for the promotion of Apple Siri on the iPhone 4S as it can deny some of the advertising revenue to its Google competitor.
