Built like a model home on a large scale in the Microsoft Central Business Executive Briefing Center the home of the future is used to explore the practical applications of advanced technology, and also to provide a futuristic prototype technology for presentations to a number of industry leaders, government leaders as well as partners and customers to show what the home of the future could look like.

The Microsoft Home Of The Future Is A Private Testing Center

While the home of the future is a private testing center accessible only by invitation, the video below provides an overview of what a day in the suburbs of the future might look like in 2025.

* Touch screen, wireless and charge plates with “smart” sensors which also read your products like watches to interpret your personal data, including vital health statistics.

* Walls composed of different interactive screens which in turn are controlled by the flick of a light switch.

The Dead Sea Scrolls Online

The Digital Dead Sea Scrolls

The Israel Museum has worked with Google to digitize the Dead Sea Scrolls which allows users to view and explore these ancient manuscripts of the time of the Second Temple with precision never before possible. Developed in collaboration with Google, the new site offers users a search, quick to load, high-resolution images of the scrolls, and a brief explanatory video, and background information on the texts and their history. The Dead Sea Scrolls contain the oldest known manuscript of the Bible that exists, to provide critical information on Jewish society in Israel during the Second Temple during the birth of Christianity and Rabbinic Judaism. Five full Dead Sea Scrolls from the Israel Museum have been digitized at this stage of the project and are now available online.

The Five Dead Sea Scrolls Now Online

The five manuscripts of the Dead Sea Scrolls that have been digitized to date include the Great Isaiah Scroll, the Community Rule scroll, Commentary on Habakkuk Scroll, Temple Scroll, and the War Scroll, with search results being performed on Google.com that send users directly to the online Dead Sea Scrolls. All five scrolls can be enlarged so that users can examine the texts in precise detail. Details invisible to the naked eye are made visible by ultra-high resolution digital photography by photographer Ardon Bar-Hama in 1200 megapixels each, these images have a resolution of about 200 times higher than those produced by a standard camera device. Each image used UV-protected flash tubes with an exposure of 1/4000th of a second to minimize damage to the fragile manuscripts. Moreover, the great Isaiah Scroll can be looked at by each column, chapter and verse, and is accompanied by a translation tool in English and the user also has the opportunity to submit translations of the verses from the Dead Sea Scrolls in their own language.

The Dead Sea Scrolls Project

The Dead Sea Scrolls project with the Israel Museum enriches and preserves an important part of world heritage by making it accessible to everyone on the Internet,” said Yossi Matias Professor, CEO of Google R & D center in Israel. Having been involved in similar projects in the past, including the Google Art Project Collection, Yad Vashem Holocaust Collection and also the Prado Museum in Madrid, Google and the museums saw how people around the world can increase their knowledge and understanding of history of key events by obtaining access to documents and collections online. Google hopes one day to have all the existing knowledge in the historical archives and collections made accessible to all online, including placing additional documents from the Dead Sea scrolls on-line as well.

In the near future your Android phone with Google Wallet will be the only thing required for everything you need to make a credit card purchase. Eventually your loyalty cards, gift cards, receipts, boarding passes, even your keys will be perfectly synchronized to your Google Wallet. And all offers and reward points will be redeemed automatically with one press of the phone to the payment terminal. Google Wallet to use contact less payment technology to securely transfer the payment via Near Field Communication (NFC).

Google Wallet To Redeem Google Offers Automatically

You will be able to transact with Google Wallet, while redeeming discount offers from Google at the same time. You might think that the consolidation of your wallet in the Android phone would cost something, right? Not at all! Google Wallet is free to use. However, there may be costs associated with the use of the actual credit cards loaded into Google Wallet. Please refer to the terms and conditions of your account provided by your bank or card issuer for more information.

Google Wallet Tap And Go Payments

To pay with Google Wallet, you just tap your smartphone when you see the PayPass ™ logo after the cashier rings your purchase. You can pay either by selecting your virtual Citi ® or MasterCard ® credit card using the PayPass ™ terminal or you can use the Google prepaid card to which you can add your funds and use as you would a virtual credit card. No more playing with your handbag or wallet at the checkout. Google Wallet uses Near Field Communication (NFC) technology to transfer your payment information securely and wirelessly. You will receive a payment confirmation when you press the PayPass ™ terminal with your Android smartphone and then you are simply on your way.

Google Wallet And Near Field Communications Technology

NFC is a new wireless technology that allows data transmission between two objects when they come within inches of each other. NFC can exchange data with other NFC devices, or read information from smart tags embedded in posters, stickers and other products. Payment credentials are stored in the security chip included in the Nexus S. Secure Elements have been isolated from the main phone android operating system and hardware. Only authorized programs, as part of Google Wallet can be used to initiate the transaction. Also, because Google Wallet enforces a security PIN, the only way to pass the credentials of the payment is to first enter your own security PIN.

Google Wallet with the tap and pay features requires a compatible phone with Android and a NFC secure element chip running on the Gingerbread Android OS 2.3.7 version or equivalent. The first phones to run Google Wallet with all these advanced features are the Nexus S.

Teaming up with the Rhaetian Railway the Google Street View team has gathered Street View images of one of the most beautiful railway routes in the world from the Albula-Bernina line in Switzerland and the results will soon be live on Google Maps for everyone to enjoy. The fascinating journey through the Swiss Alps is one of the most famous routes in the world, winding through the mountain wilderness from Thusis, Switzerland, beyond the tourist resort of St. Moritz, with the last stop just over the border in Tirano, Italy.

Google Street View Travels 2000 Meters Above Sea Level

A complex system of tunnels and viaducts allows the train to track through the narrow valleys and climb to nearly 2,000 meters above sea level. The train route shows a unique use of technology and architecture combined in a natural landscape the street view route is a popular tourist destination which also offers stunning photo opportunities.

Google Street View Cameras Capture The Swiss Alps

Google Street View team installed their Trike which is a three wheeled bicycle with a camera system on a flatbed train carriage in front of the train. As the train traveled along the Swiss Alps line, in front of the street view cameras the street view cameras captured nine different directions as well as still images from the surrounding areas which will be stitched together for a panoramic 360˚ view. The Google Street View team will publish the photos in Google Maps for people around the world to enjoy and experience very soon. Google Street View will offer fans of this train route through the Swiss Alps a completely new perspective and it will also help to document and preserve this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
