The Israel Museum has worked with Google to digitize the Dead Sea Scrolls which allows users to view and explore these ancient manuscripts of the time of the Second Temple with precision never before possible. Developed in collaboration with Google, the new site offers users a search, quick to load, high-resolution images of the scrolls, and a brief explanatory video, and background information on the texts and their history. The Dead Sea Scrolls contain the oldest known manuscript of the Bible that exists, to provide critical information on Jewish society in Israel during the Second Temple during the birth of Christianity and Rabbinic Judaism. Five full Dead Sea Scrolls from the Israel Museum have been digitized at this stage of the project and are now available online.

The Five Dead Sea Scrolls Now Online

The five manuscripts of the Dead Sea Scrolls that have been digitized to date include the Great Isaiah Scroll, the Community Rule scroll, Commentary on Habakkuk Scroll, Temple Scroll, and the War Scroll, with search results being performed on Google.com that send users directly to the online Dead Sea Scrolls. All five scrolls can be enlarged so that users can examine the texts in precise detail. Details invisible to the naked eye are made visible by ultra-high resolution digital photography by photographer Ardon Bar-Hama in 1200 megapixels each, these images have a resolution of about 200 times higher than those produced by a standard camera device. Each image used UV-protected flash tubes with an exposure of 1/4000th of a second to minimize damage to the fragile manuscripts. Moreover, the great Isaiah Scroll can be looked at by each column, chapter and verse, and is accompanied by a translation tool in English and the user also has the opportunity to submit translations of the verses from the Dead Sea Scrolls in their own language.

The Dead Sea Scrolls project with the Israel Museum enriches and preserves an important part of world heritage by making it accessible to everyone on the Internet,” said Yossi Matias Professor, CEO of Google R & D center in Israel. Having been involved in similar projects in the past, including the Google Art Project Collection, Yad Vashem Holocaust Collection and also the Prado Museum in Madrid, Google and the museums saw how people around the world can increase their knowledge and understanding of history of key events by obtaining access to documents and collections online. Google hopes one day to have all the existing knowledge in the historical archives and collections made accessible to all online, including placing additional documents from the Dead Sea scrolls on-line as well.

Google launched the Google developer API for in-app payments on the web. The Google In-App payments application allows any Web application to receive payments from users while keeping them involved in your application. Google In-App Payments is available to all U.S. developers in the sand box and will be followed by a public launch and international expansion over the summer. The Google team began to build Google In-App payments soon after Jambool was acquired by Google in August 2010. This project has the technology and expertise of social gold combined with the scale of Google.

The Google In-App Payments API

The simple Google In-App Payments API allows a rapid integration so you can start getting paid soon. In the application of payments, the application requires only two API calls: one to initiate payment, and one to accept a notification when a payment is made. The simple user experience allows users to pay without leaving the application or enter billing information. Users who have already made a purchase with Google Checkout, Android Market, Google eBookstore, YouTube movies can use that account to pay for items in your application. Fast payments that keep users in the game or the site can increase conversion rates for customers, while you increase your income.

Google In-App Payments Pricing Model

The pricing model for Google In-App Payments is a simple flat fee for payment processing of 5%. It is 5% if you distribute your application yourself or through the Chrome Web Store. There are no fixed costs for purchasing, installation costs or minimum monthly amount. The JavaScript version of the In-App charges API is available to developers now. Flash versions of the API will become available in the coming weeks.

Add The Weather Layer In Google Maps

You can add a weather layer in Google Maps by simply hovering the mouse pointer over the widget in the top right corner of Google Maps and by selecting the weather layer from the long list of options. When you zoom out, you will see the weather map from weather.com for the different places on the Google Maps, with icons to indicate the sun, clouds, rain, etc. You can also see the cloud cover, thanks to the Google Maps partners in the U.S. Naval Research Lab. If you look closely, you can also tell if it is day or night all over the world by looking for the sun and moon represented by icons.

Google Maps Weather Conditions For Family And Friends

Activating the weather layer in Google Maps also gives you the instant weather conditions for friends and family who live in other parts of the world. Clicking on the climate or weather icon of a given city will open an information window with detailed information, such as humidity and wind conditions and forecasts for the next four days. You can also change the units of wind speed from Mph to KM/PH and temperature from Fahrenheit to Celsius, and enable or disable the clouds (when you are zoomed out) from the left panel in Google Maps.

The Google+ project, which is still in beta by invitation only, has introduced a new button to play games on the new popular Google+ social media site. Google has just shed some light on how its keeps adjusting the algorithms to improve search results. Last year, Google made over 500 improvements in its search algorithms. Amit Singhal from Google explains how each new change is based on a smart idea. But if the ideas do not pass the rigorous testing of the Google company they are not added to the Google search algorithm.

In the video posted below you will see how Google engineers, each with their own ideas about how a change in the algorithm moves from an idea to actual implementation. As a first step to improve the search experience for users, Google often begins with a series of ongoing investigations into search queries that do not provide the search results as expected. Engineers, then put their heads together to determine what data can be integrated into an algorithm to improve this kind of Google search.

Google Tests All Changes To Its Search Algorithm

To test all the new experiences of the engineers at Google they use the experience of people who have been trained to evaluate and compare different search rankings. Some of the changes also apply to a small number of real Google search users in a virtual sandbox. Last year alone, Google made more than 20,000 different tests.

An analyst then analyzes the test data and meets with other researchers at Google to determine whether a change should be extended to all Google users. “If our scientific evidence says it is a good idea for Google users, we will launch in Google,” Singhal said in the video.

Google Search And Misspelled Words

For example, Google has for years made spelling suggestions for queries that it considers contain typos or other errors. In the past, the results would always respond with “Did you mean?” questions with the corrected spelling, but will always show you the results based on the misspelled word. Google would force users to click on the “Did you mean?” link to get the correct results. In order to better deal with the typos, Google has developed a new option that now shows the results for the correct spelling. But Google also allows users to search by the misspelled word as well.

Google launched a new service called What Do You Love. This is a simple search box, similar to the Google home page, but returns the results of more than 20 different Google services, like Translate, Trends, YouTube, Google Maps and Google Groups. Google does not have a lack of services on the Web Google’s new interface is called WDYL – or “What Do You love?” – The new service puts together a series of search results using Google search through several of the Google services and presents the search results in one place.

The Google Mashup Uses Many Google Services On One Page

The search results are presented in small boxes that can be extended, in some cases by clicking the icon at the bottom right. If you still need more results, you can always click on the button at the top right of the box and go directly to the selected service. The search results present the searches performed from the various Google services, such as a sketch-ups, image search results, trends, books, and so on. In addition to offering a preview of what you’ll find in different services the WDYL interface provides a connection to the search results as well from the different service.

The concept reminds Local Find of the iGoogle service which allows you to add simple applications for your personal portal view. What do you like, however, immediately creates a mini portal on any word you choose, making it an attractive option for users who do not have time to play with the settings and just want to have access to the many Google services presented on one page.

Where Can I Find Google Mashup ?

The service which can be found at www.wdyl.com and google.com/whatdoyoulove, bears the mark of Google, but the webpage contains very little explanation, and has not yet been announced any official Google blog.
