Over the last several years, outstanding scientists both at Microsoft research laboratories and all over the world have been working on the problem of language translation, the results of which you enjoy today on the web. Now you can take that experience with you as you travel across the planet with the new translator app for the Windows phone.

Simply Point, Scan And Translate Using The Translator App

With the Translator App for Windows Phone you can now convert languages by simply pointing the camera at the text. From street signs and images to daily activities as well as eating place choices translation is now easier than ever before because all you have to do is point and scan. The translator app provides a view that overlays the original language in English, Spanish, German, French, Italian and Chinese.

If you do not an have internet connection simply download the language pack you need before you are going offline and the Translator App is efficient off-line as well. The compacted translator app was designed using the same technological innovation that powers the Bing search engine translation functions that you see on the web.

The Microsoft Home Of The Future Is A Private Testing Center

While the home of the future is a private testing center accessible only by invitation, the video below provides an overview of what a day in the suburbs of the future might look like in 2025.

Microsoft unveiled a new version of Xbox Live, which includes more voice commands for the Bing search engine, YouTube integration and live TV. Microsoft demonstrated the simplified user interface, which you can navigate almost entirely by voice commands allowing you to search through games and access to online content.

Xbox Live Is Now Powered By Bing

Search on Xbox Live is now powered by the Bing search engine. Instead of typing in queries via the controller, Microsoft has chosen to allow you to now use voice search. Bing Voice Search allows users to browse the movies and games libraries. But it does not yet include a complete search the web. Microsoft also announced that it has finally been integrated into YouTube on Xbox Live, which allows you to view videos on the world’s largest video site. Microsoft already has Hulu and Netflix on Xbox Live.

The biggest message from Microsoft is the inclusion of live TV on Xbox Live. Microsoft partners such as Sky in the UK have helped the Xbox to obtain live feeds so that Xbox Live now has live streaming video content. Microsoft has revealed the next generation of Windows codenamed internally as Windows 8. Windows 8 has a totally different user interface and is really a new type of device that can scale from touch devices using small screens through to large screens, with or without a keyboard and mouse. The demo shows some of the considerations that Microsoft took in redesigning the user interface in Windows 8 for a new generation of touch-centric devices. It seems to be a fast, fluid and dynamic experience while maintaining the power, flexibility and connectivity of Windows.

Microsoft using Windows 8 has also highlighted the movement effortlessly between existing Windows programs and the new applications for Windows 8. The comprehensive capabilities of Windows are still available to you, including Windows Explorer and desktop, and compatibility with all PCs with the Windows 7 logo, software and peripherals.

Although the new user interface has been designed and optimized for the touch devices in mind, it works equally well with a mouse and keyboard. The Windows 8 approach means that you can use whatever device you want. This is sure to inspire a new generation of hardware and software development, improving the experience for PC users around the world.

The Windows 8 User Interface Is Not Just For Touch PC’s

Windows 8 is not just centered around touch PC’s. The new experience will ultimately be driven by Windows application developers around the world. You will be able to experience Windows 8 on your touch device or through a wide variety of computers. The Windows 8 user interface and new applications can be used with or without a keyboard and a mouse in a wide range of screen sizes and pixel densities. Microsoft has revealed the next generation of Windows codenamed Windows 8 for the first time. A Windows 8 PC is really a new type of device, which is expandable from touch only devices on small screens through to large screens, with or without the keyboard and mouse. The demo shows some of the ways Microsoft have thought about the user interface for the new generation of touch centric hardware. The demo video shows a fast, fluid and dynamic experience on many touch devices that may change peoples perceptions of Windows 8. It will be interesting to see if the flexibility and connectivity of Windows 8 remains unchanged as the product is further developed.

Some Aspects of the New Windows 8 Interface

Quick launch of applications in Windows 8 using a tile based screen, which replaces the Windows Start menu and gives the user a customizable, scalable, full screen view of the applications. Live tiles directly with comments and notifications showing up to date information from your applications. Fluid and natural switching between applications that are running on Windows 8. The practical ability to capture and change the size of an application on the side of the screen, so you can actually perform several tasks using the capabilities of Windows 8. Web related applications built with HTML5 and javascript to access all the power of the PC hardware. One-touch navigation using fully optimized hardware acceleration on Internet Explorer 10 when browsing the web.

Quick Switching Between Windows 8 Applications

Microsoft also showed complete freedom of movement between the existing Windows applications and new Windows 8 applications. The full capabilities of Windows continue to be at your disposal, including Windows Explorer and Desktop, which allows compatibility with all Windows 7 PC’s software and peripherals. Although the new Windows 8 user interface has been designed and optimized for the touch environment it also works well with the mouse and keyboard. The approach means you have the ability to use any type of device you choose to run the applications you like. This is sure to inspire a new generation of hardware and software development, improving the experience of PC users worldwide.

Microsoft also talked a bit about how developers will be able to create applications for the new Windows 8 system using HTML5 and JavaScript to deliver new types of applications. These new applications in Windows 8 will be full screen and touch-optimized and they will easily integrate with the features of the new Windows 8 user interface.

Microsoft Surface 2 Based On PixelSense

A visual perspective based on PixelSense ™ Microsoft Surface 2 looks and reacts to touch and real world objects. Touch enabled with Windows 7 the Microsoft surface 2 does not require a keyboard and mouse for the installation and configuration. There are new quick controls that venue staff can use to adjust the basic settings like volume, brightness and input source. The Microsoft Surface 2 configuration utility has been improved with customization options that allow you to quickly change the background, configure applications and change settings without having to use any code.

Easier remote management of Microsoft Surface 2 using Windows PowerShell scripts that are easy to use and create. To get to a simplified development platform Microsoft Surface 2 makes it easier to develop applications for Windows 7 in Windows Touch devices with enhanced capabilities for the Samsung SUR40 Microsoft Surface 2.

Microsoft Surface 2 Hardware

The second version of Microsoft Surface is running on Windows 7 and has very impressive hardware inside to make it much better than its predecessor. The new Microsoft Surface 2 is driven by a multi-core CPU and GPU from AMD. Samsung manufactures the new Microsoft Surface 2 device in partnership with Microsoft and the new model is only 4 inches thick. With the new Microsoft Surface 2 size customers will now be able to mount it vertically. The screen of Microsoft Surface 2 is using the largest piece of gorilla glass that has ever been installed to an LCD screen of this size.

With a new kit for the vertical mounting of the Microsoft Surface 2 this ability to wall mount the Microsoft Surface will greatly enhance its potential for use by customers. The first customer for Microsoft Surface 2 the Royal Bank of Canada is going to install the new equipment this year.

Bing has added a new feature this week so that now Facebook integrates with the search results produced on Bing Shopping. Now users can create a shopping list on the Bing search engine and then display that shopping list on the users Facebook wall to get feedback from friends and family in your Facebook network. When shopping on Bing you now have the option to click “Add to List” for any item you find on Bing. A module of the shopping list appears in the bottom left of the screen so that users can follow the progress of the products and share them with friends and family on Facebook.

With Bing you do not have to shop alone again because you can build your shopping list to share, compare and discuss with your friends on Facebook. From finding the best price on something to getting opinions of people you know and trust on Facebook, or simply just asking if something suits you or not.

Bing Making Shopping Socially Based With Facebook

Bing says that the idea is to make the search experience more socially based so that it allows users to get their Facebook friends involved in the purchasing decisions. Customers may request the opinion of people in their friends circle with specific skills when purchasing things such as technology, or post a wish list on their Facebook Wall to give their friends and family on Facebook a hint of what they would like for xmas or a birthday.

If you want to see more information from your friends simply encourage them to “like” things on the web, and by reciprocity you should also “like” things too so your friends can also see what you like in turn.  The new toolbar on Bing now has a universal “like” button that allows you to also give a thumbs up easily to any website on the web in case they do not have the Facebook “like” button integrated so now using Facebook “likes” has never been this easy.

Beginning this spring 2011, people who own an Xbox 360 and the Kinect sensor will be able to use their avatars to express themselves in different virtual worlds, their avatars, not just imitating their movements of the body, but their facial expressions as well. Avatar Kinect from Microsoft’s Xbox Live online service in the spring showed that with a Kinect sensor up to seven friends can gather in a virtual place and chat using avatars to represent themselves using Avatar Kinect. There will be 15 virtual rooms, each with a different theme of a beach, a talk show, a tailgate party and a stage, among others.

Avatar Kinect Captures Your Movements

Avatar Kinect captures your movements, your character moves when you move. For example, the Avatar Kinect waves when you wave. But more importantly, the Avatar Kinect is able to also interpret your facial features. So, your character is talking when you’re talking. If you smile, your avatar smiles. If you frown, your character is equipped with a frown.

At the same time Avatar Kinect allows you to save a video chat in an animated video that can be shared online. Avatar Kinect is something new and very pleasant. And it is free for those who have signed up for a year’s subscription to Xbox Live Gold. Microsoft’s new Kinect gadget to control and interpret movement has sold much better than expected. The company has sold 8 million sensor KINECTS worldwide in its first 60 days on the market, Microsoft had originally planned to sell 5 million and 50 million Xbox 360 consoles have been sold to date.

Microsoft also announced that this coming spring, Xbox owners will no longer need a remote to browse and play movies on Netflix and Hulu Plus television. Instead, using KINECT, all they do is wave their hands in the air to play, pause or rewind a movie. Voice commands can also be used as well.

Have you noticed how both Google and Bing have been active lately with the updates of social search methods in their search results ? Many traders rely heavily on traffic from search engines particularly the organic results, so it is important to stay abreast of what is happening in the landscape of search engines. More importantly, marketers need to understand where search marketing is going in relation to social search.

Search Engines Are Concentrating On Social Search

Google and Bing recently made announcements regarding the integration in the search results of content retrieved from your social circle. Google has announced expansion plans for Social search. In the first expansion in social search, Google gave the opportunity to enter search results in real time with options in their navigation. For example, you could see what people around you, said in their blog, Twitter, LinkedIn, Flickr, and even Facebook pages.

However, these results were presented separately, accessible through the left navigation. The most recent announcement is different in that the Google social search results will be incorporated into the main search results. Another important fact is that some sites are expected to rank better or worse depending on the extent to which people have linked to its social search content through blogs or Twitter.

Currently, Google search results do not include social search “likes” from Facebook. We can only guess that Google did not have the same access to “Likes” due to the Microsoft Bing strategic relationship with Facebook. There is speculation however that this will eventually change. The impact can be huge, it is well known that people are very influenced by the opinions of others to the extent that opinions are expressed in a credible way. If our friends are online and commenting or liking content and providing feedback, these observations may have a huge influence on the potential customers selection.

Social Search Is Not New

Social search is not new, but the Semantic Web is emerging before our eyes. The competition between Google and Microsoft Bing and Facebook users will continue to offer marketing changes which should make the experience new and interesting. Even more important, is not whether people can find using social search, but it is what friends comments they find because the idea of ​​social search is to facilitate the decision making influence. As a consumer, you want to find useful information to help you make a decision.

So the best advice we have for traders is to think like a buyer. You must be actively building a community around good product performance. The problem products or services will be the big losers. Good products with good results that are supported by the marketing community would be a real commitment and win the favor of social search engine results.

A social search is a social result that links a researcher to requests for your search through a social network. Through social search, the researcher sees only results that are determined by the interests of its friends in the network. Google and Bing are two companies that have changed their search results with its own version of social search over a year ago. Since then they have continued to feature prominently in the results of social search and mixed the social search results with their regular search results in both the search engines.

The changes should not be taken lightly these changes point to the fact that both companies have acknowledged that the average Internet user, who now spends more time on Facebook may be demanding a new form of search.

Facebook Social Search

In fact, Facebook is a social network for many these days. It is the social center of our map, which is where we will find and read news. People will “like” a comment on articles and the widespread use of “like” buttons help us improve our graph of interest and become a way for us to express our approval for almost any thing on the web.

“Likes” have become so large that they factor in the Bing algorithm for social search results, and even have a place in how Blekko is organized. “Likes” also determine the popularity of the content that becomes the point inside and outside Facebook. Facebook and its grip on our attention raises the questions, do we still think of search queries on the basis of an explicit query? Or has the search in the traditional sense become outdated? Are social networks or information networks the new search engine? or are the new mobile applications the new search engines?

The Future Of Search Answer

The answer is probably all the above, because the investigation is being redefined by these factors. Let’s embrace the idea that the social side of the search is effortless and occurs as a familiar user experience, whether it is on mobile, social or search as certainly these need to be combined.

As the investigation unfolds certainly there is something much larger than the results of social search that need to be strengthened. The average Facebook user does not say “I want to search the most popular stories among my Facebook friends.” No. Facebook is doing the work for them by developing a search experience highlighting socially relevant content. A social search engine that requires the user to reflect on the content of the social network is one that seems to lose the point.

Right now the search companies are scratching the surface of what is possible when you’re growing social graph becomes closely related to the use of search. But as time passes, the experience of social search will be so fluid that the search user will not even know that it is occurring.

Anne Kennedy, Beyond Ink, interviews Duane Forrester, Bing, and Rob Garner, iCrossing, on the future of search at SES New York 2011. The message to marketers, according to Duane, is to invest in rich snippets through your websites. Bing wants to know what your content is and the more detail you can give Bing, the better you can tag it and make it more useful for Bing to crawl. Content is king, according to Duane.

Stick to generating organic links within your content and use relevant anchor text. The most powerful links are the ones embedded in the content these are organic links that a user can click on while they are reviewing the content and be able to click on links that provide additional quality content.

Rob says search marketers will have to work on retaining their core SEO practices, such as creating great content and be more engaging with their content, including deeper research of their audience, providing the right information they are seeking.

With great content comes the need to provide great links. Rob says social networks will become more important in passing referrals and or sharing content. Bing has formed a relationship with Facebook. Bing is looking to social networks as a great signal when it comes to featuring quality content.

The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) is comprised of more than 460 leading media and technology companies who are responsible for selling 86% of online advertising in the United States and holds an Annual Leadership Meeting. Working with its member companies, the IAB evaluates and recommends standards and practices and fields critical research on interactive advertising.

Set in a Local Microsoft inspired office and an Apple inspired Avatar world. Look out for Mech Steve Ballmer and Navi Steve Jobs going head to head in this rap song video. This is a great video and the main office guy is getting some really strange reactions from his fellow office colleagues.

I’ve seen different uses of the Avatar themes and costumes, but none of it was tech related until now.

Mac Software vendor Parallels has commissioned a spoof video of Eminem’s Not Afraid set in a Microsoft inspired office and an Apple inspired Avatar world.  Some will appreciate some of the obscure references. For those unaware, Parallels Desktop is software that allows you to run Microsoft Windows applications on the Apple Mac OS.
