The Space Shuttle Endeavour which is the youngest fleet of NASA’s orbiters, rose in the morning sky on Monday to start the last mission in its career spanning 19 years. Endeavour lifted off from the Kennedy Space Center at 8:56 am EDT (1256 GMT), from Launch Pad 39A. The shuttle and its crew of six are destined for the International Space Station, where they will spend 16 days to deliver supplies and also to complete a very important astrophysics experiment.
“Looks like a great day to launch Endeavour for the final time,” launch director Mike Leinbach told the crew as the minutes and seconds ticked down to liftoff. “On behalf of thousands of proud Americans who’ve been part of the journey, good luck, godspeed, see you back here on June 1.” Endeavour commander Mark Kelly also shared some profound words just before the launch. “As Americans, we endeavor to build a better life than the generation before and we endeavor to be a united nation,” Kelly said in the final moments at the launch pad. “In these efforts we are often tested. It is in the DNA of our great country to reach for the stars and explore. We must not stop.”

The Space Shuttle Program Is Being Retired
After today, NASA has a single shuttle mission planned before the shuttles are retired forever. The previous test launch in April 2011 was canceled when a heater that is used to protect a key power unit of the shuttle had a major failure just a few hours before takeoff. Engineers traced the problem to a power supply switch box connected to the heater. They replaced the switch box and about 20 feet of cable connected to it, and performed extensive testing to ensure that the problem was solved. There were no problems with the system at today’s launch.

Kelly is a veteran leader of the team of six, including Pilot Gregory H. Johnson and mission specialists Mike Fincke, Greg Chamitoff, Andrew Feustel, and the European Space Agency astronaut, Roberto Vittori. “I’m really excited and charged up for this mission!” Johnson tweeted on Twitter this morning. The launch was attended by a crowd of nearly 500,000 spectators, which included the wife of Commander Kelly, Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. Commander Kelly’s wife was back in Houston after being shot in January during a community outreach event outside a grocer in Tucson, Arizona. After the shooting, Kelly found some time to be with his wife and family, but decided in early February to continue training with the crew and to continue as the mission commander.
The Space Shuttle Endeavour Payload
Endeavour’s main payload is the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS), a $2 billion detector of particles that will be used to search cosmic rays that could help solve some of the most baffling cosmic mysteries, such as dark matter that is believed to be part of the universe. Besides the particle detector Endeavour is carrying a platform full of 14 000 pounds or 6350 kilograms of relief supplies to the space station, scheduled to run until at least 2020.
The final space flight scheduled for STS-135 Space Shuttle Atlantis will be later in July 2011. Where Atlantis astronauts will supply a final round of the International Space Station spare parts. After their mission, Endeavour, Atlantis and their sister orbiter Discovery are going to be sent to museums for public display. Endeavour is promised the California Science Center in Los Angeles, while Discovery will go to the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum and Atlantis will be displayed at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Center.
Without the space shuttle program, NASA will have to pay for the travel of U.S. astronauts aboard Russian space craft until the new American option is available. NASA has sought to encourage the development of U.S. commercial spacecraft in future that will be used for carrying the future crews. Meanwhile, NASA will work to build a rocket that could carry man back to the moon, an asteroid, and eventually to the planet Mars.

Have you noticed how both Google and Bing have been active lately with the updates of social search methods in their search results ? Many traders rely heavily on traffic from search engines particularly the organic results, so it is important to stay abreast of what is happening in the landscape of search engines. More importantly, marketers need to understand where search marketing is going in relation to social search.
Search Engines Are Concentrating On Social Search
Google and Bing recently made announcements regarding the integration in the search results of content retrieved from your social circle. Google has announced expansion plans for Social search. In the first expansion in social search, Google gave the opportunity to enter search results in real time with options in their navigation. For example, you could see what people around you, said in their blog, Twitter, LinkedIn, Flickr, and even Facebook pages.
However, these results were presented separately, accessible through the left navigation. The most recent announcement is different in that the Google social search results will be incorporated into the main search results. Another important fact is that some sites are expected to rank better or worse depending on the extent to which people have linked to its social search content through blogs or Twitter.
Currently, Google search results do not include social search “likes” from Facebook. We can only guess that Google did not have the same access to “Likes” due to the Microsoft Bing strategic relationship with Facebook. There is speculation however that this will eventually change. The impact can be huge, it is well known that people are very influenced by the opinions of others to the extent that opinions are expressed in a credible way. If our friends are online and commenting or liking content and providing feedback, these observations may have a huge influence on the potential customers selection.
Social Search Is Not New
Social search is not new, but the Semantic Web is emerging before our eyes. The competition between Google and Microsoft Bing and Facebook users will continue to offer marketing changes which should make the experience new and interesting. Even more important, is not whether people can find using social search, but it is what friends comments they find because the idea of social search is to facilitate the decision making influence. As a consumer, you want to find useful information to help you make a decision.
So the best advice we have for traders is to think like a buyer. You must be actively building a community around good product performance. The problem products or services will be the big losers. Good products with good results that are supported by the marketing community would be a real commitment and win the favor of social search engine results.
