The Israel Museum has worked with Google to digitize the Dead Sea Scrolls which allows users to view and explore these ancient manuscripts of the time of the Second Temple with precision never before possible. Developed in collaboration with Google, the new site offers users a search, quick to load, high-resolution images of the scrolls, and a brief explanatory video, and background information on the texts and their history. The Dead Sea Scrolls contain the oldest known manuscript of the Bible that exists, to provide critical information on Jewish society in Israel during the Second Temple during the birth of Christianity and Rabbinic Judaism. Five full Dead Sea Scrolls from the Israel Museum have been digitized at this stage of the project and are now available online.

The Five Dead Sea Scrolls Now Online

The five manuscripts of the Dead Sea Scrolls that have been digitized to date include the Great Isaiah Scroll, the Community Rule scroll, Commentary on Habakkuk Scroll, Temple Scroll, and the War Scroll, with search results being performed on Google.com that send users directly to the online Dead Sea Scrolls. All five scrolls can be enlarged so that users can examine the texts in precise detail. Details invisible to the naked eye are made visible by ultra-high resolution digital photography by photographer Ardon Bar-Hama in 1200 megapixels each, these images have a resolution of about 200 times higher than those produced by a standard camera device. Google Wallet is a free application that turns your Android device into a virtual wallet so you can select, pay and save using the virtual versions of the Citi ® MasterCard ® with PayPass ™ and incredible prices from Google Offers in the near future. At launch, Google Wallet is compatible with the Nexus S by Google. Over time, Google plans to add support for more phones and more card issuers.

Google Wallet Will Soon Store Loyalty Cards And Gift Cards

Eventually your loyalty cards, gift cards, receipts, boarding passes, even your keys will be perfectly synchronized to your Google Wallet. Google Wallet To Redeem Google Offers Automatically

You will be able to transact with Google Wallet, while redeeming discount offers from Google at the same time. You might think that the consolidation of your wallet in the Android phone would cost something, right? Not at all! Google Wallet is free to use. However, there may be costs associated with the use of the actual credit cards loaded into Google Wallet. Google Wallet Tap And Go Payments

To pay with Google Wallet, you just tap your smartphone when you see the PayPass ™ logo after the cashier rings your purchase. You can pay either by selecting your virtual Citi ® or MasterCard ® credit card using the PayPass ™ terminal or you can use the Google prepaid card to which you can add your funds and use as you would a virtual credit card. No more playing with your handbag or wallet at the checkout. Google Wallet uses Near Field Communication (NFC) technology to transfer your payment information securely and wirelessly. You will receive a payment confirmation when you press the PayPass ™ terminal with your Android smartphone and then you are simply on your way.

Google Wallet And Near Field Communications Technology

NFC is a new wireless technology that allows data transmission between two objects when they come within inches of each other. NFC can exchange data with other NFC devices, or read information from smart tags embedded in posters, stickers and other products. Payment credentials are stored in the security chip included in the Nexus S. Secure Elements have been isolated from the main phone android operating system and hardware. Only authorized programs, as part of Google Wallet can be used to initiate the transaction. Also, because Google Wallet enforces a security PIN, the only way to pass the credentials of the payment is to first enter your own security PIN.

Google Wallet with the tap and pay features requires a compatible phone with Android and a NFC secure element chip running on the Gingerbread Android OS 2.3.7 version or equivalent. The first phones to run Google Wallet with all these advanced features are the Nexus S.

From the Amazon to the ancient ruins of Pompeii, Google Street View imaging technology has captured some of the most interesting and important sites around the world and made it available to the online world for everyone to enjoy. Now for the first time in Google Maps, the Google Street View team hit the train tracks to capture the majesty of the famous railway lines of the Swiss Alps and the surrounding landscapes.

Google Street View Teams With The Rhaetian Railway

Teaming up with the Rhaetian Railway the Google Street View team has gathered Street View images of one of the most beautiful railway routes in the world from the Albula-Bernina line in Switzerland and the results will soon be live on Google Maps for everyone to enjoy. The fascinating journey through the Swiss Alps is one of the most famous routes in the world, winding through the mountain wilderness from Thusis, Switzerland, beyond the tourist resort of St. Moritz, with the last stop just over the border in Tirano, Italy.

Google Street View Travels 2000 Meters Above Sea Level

A complex system of tunnels and viaducts allows the train to track through the narrow valleys and climb to nearly 2,000 meters above sea level. The train route shows a unique use of technology and architecture combined in a natural landscape the street view route is a popular tourist destination which also offers stunning photo opportunities.

Google Street View Cameras Capture The Swiss Alps

Google Street View team installed their Trike which is a three wheeled bicycle with a camera system on a flatbed train carriage in front of the train. As the train traveled along the Swiss Alps line, in front of the street view cameras the street view cameras captured nine different directions as well as still images from the surrounding areas which will be stitched together for a panoramic 360˚ view. The Google Street View team will publish the photos in Google Maps for people around the world to enjoy and experience very soon. Google Street View will offer fans of this train route through the Swiss Alps a completely new perspective and it will also help to document and preserve this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Steve Jobs was clear last year that he believed that Apple Siri was not a search firm, but rather a product driven using artificial intelligence. But that does not mean that Apple Siri can not serve as a threat to Google when using IOS devices for web search. With the deployment of Apple Siri on the iPhone 4S, voice recognition and virtual assistant services have become even more robust than when it first appeared last year. Apple is now showing that while Apple Siri is not a search technology when it is combined with other services, including Wolfram Alpha, Wikipedia and Yelp, it now has the potential to divert significant traffic from Google and other search engines.

What Can Apple Siri Do ?

Apple has revealed how users can ask questions of Apple Siri on the iPhone 4S. You can also find restaurants and book tables if you need to and a lot more. With the Wolfram Alpha integration you can now also search the web in general.

Apple Siri can also do things like set alarms, appointments, and dictate text messages, tasks that do not deal with general web search. But in many ways, if users feel at home talking to Apple Siri, it can affect the volume of web searches that Google sees with the future IOS devices coming out of Apple. Instead of turning to their browser and typing in a web search, they can simply request information by voice. And in many cases it is possible to bypass Google entirely. Many of the best keywords for searches while mobile browsing are for things like the weather, dictionary meanings and searching the names of celebrities, all of which can be handled with some degree by Apple Siri.

Apple Siri And Google

With Apple Siri, Apple does not have to enter the search game if it can use Apple Siri to direct people to programs, services and information they need. Apple Siri could hurt its rival Google who’s income is based on search advertising. Google and Microsoft are seeing that a quarter of all web searches on mobile devices are now performed using voice. If multiple applications can connect through Apple Siri, it would help Apple gain greater visibility without having to worry about using Google web search at all. This can increase a company like Alpha Wolfram, who is trying to compete with the Google search box. It could also be useful for a company like Yelp, which has to compete with Google’s services to get noticed in the search results. It is probably no coincidence that the two have signed with Apple.

Apple Siri Reducing The Dependence On Google

It seems that Apple is using Apple Siri to reduce the dependence of the iPhone on Google, something that Apple is supposed to do with mapping at some point in time as well. And if Apple Siri can give a great user experience it may not only be a differentiating factor for IOS, but it could also help pull some traffic away from Google search. Apple are betting that people will like Apple Siri and how many people will like speaking to a computer-generated voice is still unknown at this time but we are about to find out. Apple is fantastic at introducing people to technology. And in this case, Apple has an interest in pushing for the promotion of Apple Siri on the iPhone 4S as it can deny some of the advertising revenue to its Google competitor.
